The Best Way to Clean Your Diamonds at Home for FREE
Diamonds are cut specifically to sparkle. But did you know that they are natural grease magnets? That means your most worn jewels are constantly getting dirty, making them appear dull and lifeless.
It’s easy to restore their fiery sparkle though. And you probably have most of the materials already. Win!
Here’s a list of what you need:
1. Ammonia or mild dish soap
2. Water
3. New, soft bristled brush
…that’s it!
So I just told you that diamonds love grease. Well, that means your grease cutting dish soap is perfect for cleaning your bling. Just soak your jewelry in some warm water with a dab of the stuff. After a few minutes, use a soft bristled toothbrush to gently scrub around the diamonds, paying close attention to the bottom, where the grime tends to build up. Rinse, and let air dry.
If you have ammonia at home, you can combine it with an equal amount of cool water to create a soaking solution. Just drop your jewelry in for a few minutes and remove to air dry. No scrubbing necessary.
*Please note* These methods are only recommended for diamonds set in precious metal. Costume jewelry and porous gems require extra care.
Always take pieces you wear on a consistent basis for professional cleaning and inspection at least once a year. Your jeweler needs to check the prongs to make sure your stones are secure and their cleaning equipment will make your ring like new.
So clean up and shine on you crazy diamond!
